Safetyonthewater.ie is an Irish website that provides information on water safety for anyone who wants to get involved in water-based leisure activities in Ireland.

The site provides free brochures you can download, links to information on weather forecasts, Marine Safety Notices and more.

Remember, in an emergency, call 999 or 112 and ask for the Coast Guard.

Latest Marine Safety Notices

Surviving Cold Shock/Hypothermia - Marine Notice No 05 of 2010

Advice to those who find themselves suddenly immersed in cold water or those who enter cold water to assist a person in distress.

If you plan to go out on the water, always remember to:

  • "Keep in touch"
  • Plan your trip carefully and never go out alone
  • Let someone ashore know where you are going and when you will be back
  • Carry a means of communication for raising the alarm should you get in difficulty
